The Invisible Man
Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man shows the conflict or struggle
of one man versus an entire society. The most important section of this
novel is that in which the narrator joins “the Brotherhood”, an
organization designed to improve the condition under which his race is at
the time. This section is the most important because the narrator matures
mentally. He also learns a great deal about his own identity and realizes
that he has been a tool for most of his life.
The narrator works hard for the Brotherhood and his efforts are
rewarded by being named the representative of the Harlem district. One of
the first people he meets....
