The American Heritage Dictionary defines a patriot is a person who loves, supports, and defends his country. Benedict Arnold was not a patriot because when he fought in the Revolutionary War he did not fight for his country, but rather himself. His main goal in life was to achieve fame and immortalize the Arnold name, but he did not care who he hurt along the way. Arnold’s selfishness only grew with age, and soon the world was not enough for him. His deceit, ego and selfishness controlled him even when he was in his deathbed.
