It started when a friend of mine, Ned Townley, was accused of murder. One night at a party him and Daniel, Sir William of Wyndesore’s page, got into a fight about Mary. Ned Townley was thrown out of the party and later that night Daniel was found dead; however, Ned Townley was found innocent because Mistress Perrers told the court he was with Mary, her maid.
Afterwards Ned and I were assigned to escort Archbishop Thoresby to Fountains and Rievaulx. The King does this to get the powerful abbots there to support his nomination of William of Wykeham for the next Bishop of Winch....
