The Dutch artist Maurits C. Escher (1898-1972) was a draftsman, book illustrator, tapestry designer, and muralist, but his primary work was as a printmaker. He was born in Leeuwarden, Holland and was the son of a civil engineer. He spent most of his childhood in Arnhem. He wanted to be an architect so he enrolled in the School for Architecture and Decorative Arts in Haarlem. He stared studying there in 1919. But he did not do well in school and got very bad ....
