Sister Helen Prejean has been forced to learn many lessons about the real world since her move from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was raised in a family who attempted to be strong and affectionate. Sister Helen Prejean lived comfortably in a two-story home and attended Catholic schools and occasionally ventured on widespread journeys (6). Each night her mother made sure she would pray for the poor and less fortunate. But to her, poverty seemed to be more like a fairy tale than reality (6). She never really knew who or what it was that she prayed for all those years until she moved in....
