It’s a harvest, holiday and heritage festival all rolled into one week long event. Each year, millions of African Americans kick off a celebration with feasts, decorations, and exchanging of gifts. This is the religious holiday known as Kwanzaa. Created thirty years ago by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa brings a cultural message of pride and dignity to the Africans. The tradition, which began in America, provides an emotional period of bonding between the family, community, and culture.
