Oedipus Rex: Classic Example of Irony
Oedipus Rex , a classic example of irony in a play. The way Sophocles wrote the story it was meant to be a tragedy. The main character (as defined) is supposed to come to some revealation about himself and his faults . His fault that would cost him everything .All the things that make a tragedy are of course present in the play but it has a twist that is evident in the plot .
At first glance Oedipus is a noble King that only wants to rescue his city from turmoil , a plague , in other words . But at second glance you see a man that seals his fate by trying to flush ....
