Throughout the years, studies have shown that prenatal alcohol use can cause physical and mental disabilities in infants and children. According to Anderson "fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is expressed as a pattern of mental, physical, and behavioral defects which may develop in the unborn child when the mother consumes alcohol during the course of her pregnancy" (88). This can be a very dangerous situation having symptoms that last a lifetime, sometimes leading to death.
