In discussing the upcoming century, it was inevitable some writer in your year end issue would make reference to Laurier's famous quote about how "the twentieth century belonged to Canada," and include the oft repeated comment he was wrong. What a disappointment, however, that it would come from a writer of Peter C. Newman's calibre. (The Dawn of a New Millenium, Dec. 30).
Laurier was not wrong. Over the last one hundred years Canada has created a nation the envy of the world. Rich, technologically advanced, tolerant and peace....
