The Cask of Amontillado
In the story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, the protagonist, Montressor, causes a disastrous end to a night, that began simply with a carnival. Montressor, is very witty, he is egotistic, and he is evil. By using these terrible characteristics, he is able to pull off the horrible murder of a man, that did not even do anything to Montressor to begin with.
Montressor's egoism is first shown after he seeks to avenge his honor when he is insulted by Fortunato. Throughout the night, Montressor shrugs his shoulders at Fortunato after many other insults. He does this to his enemy to cover up the horri....
