Often in life, one aims to complete a goal, even if it proves to be unattainable. In the novel, the Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a constant theme of unrealistic goals is portrayed. At the time the novel was being written, the common people were disillusioned and started a genre of parties, loud music, and a carefree style of dance. The author, Fitzgerald felt that the twenties were an era of possibilities and aspirations. The theme of aspirations, corruption and unattainable goals is prevalent throughout the novel.
