In Albert Camus's novel "The Stranger" the sun that sits in the sky could be the major influence on some of the actions meursault makes, almost like another character. Meursault loves the sun. But the sun is also lethal. At the moment of his crime the great cymbals of the sun beat on his head. As though the sun could literally do so.
