Todd Gitlin considered himself “studious and clean-cut”. After he graduated from high school, he attended Harvard University. During his sophomore year in 1960, he joined a Harvard-Radcliffe peace group called Tocsin. The group consisted of campus organizer-intellectuals who called themselves the “New Left”.
